When reading about the latest college admissions scandal, the scandals about value manipulation to reduce tax liabilities and loan eligibilities, college sports and how “student-athletes” are similar to slaves while the administrators and coaches line their pockets with millions of Dollars, a quote from Joe Biden came to mind (even though I am normally not a Biden-fan):
“Corruption is a cancer: a cancer that eats away at a citizen’s faith in democracy, diminishes the instinct for innovation and creativity; already-tight national budgets, crowding out important national investments. It wastes the talent of entire generations. It scares away investments and jobs.”
I would add: it destroys a country from within and when anyone these days just scratches the shiny surface of almost any system, institution, or organization we were led to believe to hold near and dear, cancer, corruption and decay becomes immediately visible. Looking away does not remove it or lessens the stink.
